wE’VE mOVED

Oh yea…. it’s been a while and we forgot to let you know that we’ve relocated. Bren is back in Maine for the time being with Boston on her sights after the holidays and Tri moved back to the dirty D. Don’t worry, we’ll still keep you up to date on what we’re up to in our respective cities and we still see each other often! The tag team was back again this summer for Bren’s big birthday!

Yes. That is a psychedelic cat shirt. Bren got a little weird for her 25th.

20140303-084347.jpgMy beautiful cousin Caitlyn recently celebrated her 25th birthday and subsequently decided her hair was ready for a change…strawberry blonde! Now I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous considering she’s been a bright blonde her ENTIRE life…. but after a quick talk and seeing countless photos she’d been collecting, I decided she wasn’t crazy and got to work.

We started her by applying an all over copper/gold dark blonde color. We let that process, then washed and dried the hair again and added in some blonde balayage to break it up and brighten her back up.

The end result came out just as she’d hoped!

We try to keep it all from the neck up, but from time to time our experiences might go down south…to the fingers and toes. I must say, it’s crazy how a little glitter on the nails can make a girl happy. I literally could not stop looking at them!

The first two coats were Essie blushing bride. Then a halo of Essie silver glitter was slowly put on top and finished with Seche Vite top coat, the shiniest and best top coat ever.

wEDDING cRASHERS / cOURTNEY

As part of our profession, we get asked to crash a wedding or two… make the bride and her bridesmaids look as beautiful as ever! It seriously some of the most fun (and stress?!) we can have on a Saturday morning. The sky is the limit when it comes to bridal hair… Up, down, curly, straight, romantic, loose, classic, headbands, etc. .. It can make your head spin with all the options. So we thought we’d share some of our own bridal styles that we’ve had the privilege to create to give you all some more inspiration for your wedding day hair.

20140129-172820.jpgHere’s one of favorite brides, our dear friend Courtney.

The look was a little undone, loose curls all gathered at the nape of the head with a little volume at the crown. The look was finished off with a gorgeous crystal beaded headband.

Look for more wedding crashers in the future… because we love our brides!

20140121-224735.jpgWe made it back from NYC in one piece! It was quite the five day adventure… between class all day, shopping, and hitting the town at night… we’re glad to back in VA with more inspiration and passion than ever.

We got the opportunity to learn eight ‘cuts’ (and plenty more new techniques) from the amazing instructors at the TIGI Advanced Academy in SOHO.

20140121-224650.jpgThe week really reminded us of the cutting basics, which are truly the foundation for any great hairdresser. Like everything else, practice makes perfect… and we couldn’t be anymore excited to get to it!

kerastase-powder-bluff-dry-shampoo

Kérastase Powder Bluff Dry Shampoo – Not only does this stuff smell amazing but who doesn’t love clean hair without all of the work! This non-sticky, non-powdery formula sucks up oil while adding back some volume you may have left on your pillow. Skipping the shampoo in the shower everyday also helps to keep your hair healthier.

Murad Mask

Dr. Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask – I’m obsessed with these little pink packets. They are basically an at-home chemical peel for a fifth of the cost, perfect for a spa night at home. Fifteen minutes with this bad boy on leaves your face feeling softer and fresher than ever. The bast part is that it’s all chemical exfoliation, so there’s no grit left on your skin post-treatment. Get a box for a friend and a box for yourself… because these are too good to share.

Curl Stick

Hot Tools Curl Stick – If you don’t know about the curl stick yet, it’s time to get in the know. This little tool is basically a curling iron without the annoying clip. To use, you simply grab hair and wrap it around the iron then release it to create that nice beachy wave look. I must warn you… I’ve been using this bad boy for a couple of years now and still burn my fingers on the regular. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

moroccanoil

Moroccanoil – Packed with argon oil and essential vitamins and minerals for healthy-hair, this little brown and blue bottle will last you longer than you think. It’s a versatile gift that not only detangles and conditions, it also speeds up drying time and can be used as a finishing products to tame frizz and fly aways. Who wouldn’t want that?!

seche vite

Seche Vite Top Coat – I know your hands aren’t technically ‘above the neck’ but they are still in the beauty department so we’ve added this amazing top coat nail polish to our list. It might not look like anything special, but we assure you this stuff is legit. It dries in about a minute or two…as in put it on and go to sleep and smash your hands in your covers two minutes later. I know it sounds scary, but I promise your nails will still be shiny and crinkle-free in the morning. I’ve done it PLENTY of times and it never ceases to amaze me.

SoBronze

SoBronze Instant Body Bronzing Mist – Tan in a can! If you can’t afford to gift a great vacation (do people actually do this?!) than you can at least give them that ‘I just got back from vacation’ glow. It might not work for our friends in the south, but us kids in the north know that the winter months can bring out the whitest of white hue to our complexion. I know I practically glow in the dark come spring. And since tanning beds were soo 2005…it’s truly the best alternative.

Don’t forget…a gift certificate to their favorite salon is also always a great choice! It’s the gift that keeps on giving, all year-round 😉
